Answers from your records, not from the internet

The assistant works over the ranch you're standing in. Which animals are under withdrawal, what's overdue, which pasture is ready, what production looked like last month — the answers come from your data, and they're as current as your last entry.

Log work by talking about it

The other half is entry. Tell it what you did — treated an animal, moved a herd, put eggs in the book — and it works out the record that belongs in the app. Which is often the difference between a thing being written down and it living in someone's memory until Thursday.

Nothing is written without your say-so

This is the part worth being precise about. When the assistant wants to change your records, it doesn't. It proposes the change and waits. You see exactly what would be written — which animal, which field, which value — and it happens only when you confirm it.

An assistant that quietly edits your herd records is a liability, not a feature. So reads are free and writes need a human. Every time, including when it's obviously right.

If you'd rather not use AI at all

Switch it off. The assistant is one of the optional modules, and turning it off takes it out of the sidebar like any other. Everything else in Land & Herd works exactly the same without it — nothing depends on the assistant being on.

One thing we won't pretend about: the model runs on a third-party AI provider that we configure server-side, so you can't bring your own key. What that means for your data is written out on the privacy page.
