Cost

What does Land & Herd cost?

Nothing while we're in beta. Every module, your whole crew, as many animals as you keep — no credit card and no trial countdown. When the beta ends, plans run from a permanently free tier through Homestead at $10 a month, Ranch at $29 and Operation at $79, with annual working out to ten months for twelve. The pricing page lays out every rung.

Do I need a credit card to start?

No. There's nothing to charge, so there's no card on file and no way to be charged by surprise. When paid plans arrive you'll have to choose one deliberately, and if you don't, you land on the free tier rather than losing your account.

Is any feature held back behind a higher plan?

Not today — every module in the app is open to every account while we're in beta. Under the plans that follow, the free tier covers the dashboard, tasks, production, inventory and the daily log with up to 25 head; breeding, health, crops, equipment and finances come in at Homestead, and staff roles at Ranch.

Will there still be a free tier?

Yes, permanently — not a trial that lapses. If a small place only ever needs 25 head, three pastures and the daily log, that stays free.

Do I pay per person, or per ranch?

Per ranch. The owner subscribes and everyone they invite is covered up to the seat count on the plan — 1 on Free, 2 on Homestead, 5 on Ranch, unlimited on Operation. If someone helps at two different ranches, that's two ranches' subscriptions, not two of theirs.

Your records

Can I bring the spreadsheet I already keep?

Yes. Upload the workbook as it is and an AI-assisted preview maps your columns onto animals, tasks, inventory and more — including turning a dam or sire column into real links between animals. You review the whole plan, and can talk it through in a chat, before a single row is written.

Can I get my data back out?

Not with a button, yet. There's no export screen in the app today and we'd rather say so than imply one exists. It's on the list. Until it ships, email [email protected] and we'll get you your records.

Who can see my ranch's data?

The people you invite to your ranch, and nobody else's account. On our side, a small number of third-party services are involved in running the product — analytics, weather lookup, and the AI provider behind the assistant and import. The privacy page names each one and says exactly what reaches it.

What happens to my data if I stop using it?

Your records stay in your account until you say otherwise. When you do want them gone, you can delete your account yourself — Settings then Account on the web, or the Account screen in the mobile app. That removes your account, the ranches where you were the last member, and everything attached. What it does

What animals can I track?

Cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens and rabbits, each with its own breeds, sex classifications and gestation length — plus an "other" catch-all for anything else you keep.

Does it work out due dates for me?

Yes. Log a pairing and the due date comes from that species' gestation — 283 days for cattle, 150 for goats, 147 for sheep, 340 for horses, 114 for pigs, and 21 days of incubation for chickens. Every one of those is adjustable if your own numbers differ.

Do I have to use the modules I don't need?

No. Seven modules switch off entirely from Settings then Modules, and when they're off they leave the sidebar too. A homestead with chickens and a garden never has to look at an equipment maintenance log.

Can my family or crew use it too?

Yes, with owner, manager and worker roles. You generate an invite link and share it however you like — text, email, whatever — and they join your ranch when they sign up. We don't send the invite email for you.

Can I run more than one place from one login?

Yes. Multiple ranches sit under a single account with a switcher in the sidebar.

Do I need an API key or a weather account?

No. Set a ZIP code or a lat/long and the dashboard shows your local conditions and the day's high and low. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to paste in.

Devices and access

Is there a mobile app?

The web app is fully responsive, so it works on a phone or tablet today with nothing to install — pin it to your home screen and it opens like an app. Native iOS and Android apps are in early access, covering sign-in, ranch setup, joining by invite and the dashboard so far. The rest of the modules are landing as they ship.

Does it work offline, out where there's no signal?

Not today. Land & Herd runs in the browser and needs a connection. If you're out of signal, the honest answer is to write it on your hand and log it when you're back at the house.

Can I run it on my own server?

No. Land & Herd is a hosted product at app.landandherd.com. There's no self-hosted distribution and we won't pretend otherwise.

The AI parts

Can the assistant change my records without asking?

No. Anything that writes to your records is proposed first and waits for you to confirm it. You see exactly what would be written — which animal, which field, which value — before it happens. Reads are free; writes need a human.

Can I turn the AI off entirely?

Yes, with one toggle in Settings then Modules. It leaves the sidebar like any other optional module, and nothing else in the app depends on it being on.

Can I use my own AI provider or API key?

No. The model is configured server-side, so bring-your-own-key isn't something we offer today.

Getting started

How long does setup take?

A couple of minutes to create the ranch itself. Getting your existing records in depends on what you're bringing — the spreadsheet import does most of the lifting if you're coming from a workbook.

It's in beta. How rough is it?

It's a working app that runs real operations, not a prototype — but it's young, things change, and you'll find rough edges. That's the trade: you get everything for free while we're still building, and we get to hear what's wrong with it. Email [email protected] when you find something.

Still unanswered? Email [email protected] — a person reads it.
